Team USA lost to France 83-76 in the Tokyo Olympic Games on Sunday, ending a 25-game winning streak that dates back to ’04.
NBA Champion Jrue Holiday led the U.S. with 18 points, scoring 12 points in the fourth quarter. While that effort helped give Team USA a 74-67 lead with 3:41 left in the game, it wasn’t enough as France went on a 16-2 run to close out the game.
This loss does not eliminate the U.S. from a chance at the gold medal, but they can’t afford any more losses. The Americans finish out their Group A competition against Iran on Wednesday and the Czech Republic on Saturday. If they win both games, the U.S. qualifies for the quarterfinals. However, one more loss and the Americans will need to finish in the top eight of this 12-team tournament.
