Former Standout Guard Monta Ellis Mulling Return to the NBA

A familiar face is vying for a return to the NBA.

Former Golden State Warriors star guard Monta Ellis, who has been out of the league for over four years, is ready to lace up and hit the hardwood.

In an interview with Empire Sports Media, Ellis mentioned he still believes he can perform at a high level.

He’s not worried about compensation. The Mississippi Bullet just wants the ball in his hands.

“I believe I still have a lot in my tank,” Ellis said on a Zoom call with Empire Sports Media. “I can still play five years.”

“I just want a shot,” he continued. “I ain’t asking for a contract to get $5 million, $10 million, or even $1 million. All I’m asking is give me a look. That’s all and let my game speak for itself. I just want an opportunity, a workout, and that’s not the end of the world, that’s not gonna hurt anybody.”

Ellis, who most recently appeared in 74 games for the Indiana Pacers during the 2016-17 season, was drafted by the Warriors in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft.

He instantly became a fan favorite with his explosive scoring outbursts and his infectious personality. Ellis was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2007, and, for his career, holds averages of 17.8 points and 4.6 assists per game.

It remains to be seen whether Ellis will receive a shot — but there’s no doubting that if he does, Monta will get his buckets wherever he goes.
